Tonight I have reached a certain level of audio nirvana. A boy’s (me, much younger) dream came true.
Music source : Qobuz (HiRes)
Streamer : WiiM Pro Plus
DAC : Merason Frérot
Amp : Naim XS2
Speakers : Sonus Faber Liuto
I am sincerely sorry for my neighbors (or rather their ears) , I hope they spend, like all normal Swiss residents, their next few days of vacation somewhere in the mountains.

Hike to cabane de Trient
13 August 2023, by Valentin MurariuNice day hike to Cabane de Trient, passing by Cabane d’Orny. Based on the suggestion on the Valais.ch website.
So, let’s start with the technicalities. The attached GPX file is my recorded session: and the summary of the trip is nicely available here:
Then some impressions: First part of the hike is unimpressive. It’s a highway, anyone can walk there and that’s not necessarily good. People in sneakers have been seen there today. Man... In romanian that’s called "pantofari". It seems (...) -

Hike to Blümlisalphütte
8 August 2023, by Valentin MurariuLast week-end: wonderful hike from Kandersteg, then to Oeschinensee, then up to Blümlisalphütte.
The GPX files for import in whatever tool you use (I use Locusmaps):
– day 1:
– day 2 (I did the same hike, just in reverse, the weather was too bad - as in : snowing quite heavily - to continue to Griesalp):
An now some (wonderful, I hope you’ll like) pictures:
Just after Kandersteg:
At Oeschinensee:
A bit higher now:
Same place photographed several times within a very short (...) -

Switching a Macbook Pro 2009 to a 2016 shape
7 April 2016, by Valentin MurariuSo, you’ve got a friend (or more than one of them) who’s owning a Macbook pro from 2009. Or maybe it’s up to 2012: this article should apply, too. This friend is seriously considering buying a new Mac, because it’s soooo, but soooo, slow - you get the wait icon all the time on the screen, and launching more than one app at a time is an overkill.
Solution? Switch to a faster drive. Currently, the most convenient, and price-worthy option, is the SSD family.
Step 1: buy your SSD drive. (...) -
Moving to a new webhosting

I hope I did all the correct stuff and I will not get interruptions, especially concerning my emails on my two domains murariu.info and murariu.ch. -
Shell - find files before date
26 October 2013, by Valentin MurariuSo, we have a production system big-bang and I got files produced before and after the big-bang.
How do I find the files produced before the big-bang ? TESTFILE=$(mktemp -u) touch -t 1310122359 $TESTFILE find . ! -newer $TESTFILE rm -rf $TESTFILE
Translation:
– create a temporary file name
– create the file with a timestamp of the big-bang. 1310122359 translates to year 2013 (1310122359), month 10 (1310122359), day 12 (1310122359), hour 23 (1310122359), minute 59 (1310122359)
– find (...) -
Where are You ?
14 August 2013, by Valentin MurariuRumi was a 13th century Persian poet. I will not make his biography, that’s why wikipedia is out there for: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumi [1]
Rumi, as the wise man he was, gave us this beautiful poem, which I copy on this site as a memory of things I know now, then I tend to forget:
Allah
I tried to find Him on the Christian cross, but He
was not there; I went to the Temple of the
Hindus and to the old pagodas, but I could not
find a trace of Him anywhere.
I searched on the (...) -
Nice badminton rallies
14 August 2013, by Valentin MurariuDiscovered in the French edition of 20min.ch: http://www.20min.ch/ro/sports/autres/story/Le-plus-long-point-de-l-histoire-12818886
Then, should you have sleeping problems, you can always watch this, and count the shots. You should fall asleep within the first minute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slhgU_ATNjg
I like badminton, but I clearly do not play at this level. My rallies are much, very much, shorter.
